This book is a valuable source of scientific information concerning the closed treatment of fractures. Sir John Charnley wrote a consistent text guided by biological, biomechanical and practical concepts.
The core of the text is focused on the elements involved with the closed treatment of fractures, backgrounded by the vast experience and scientific knowledge of the author.
Despite the fact that this book was first published in 1950, the high quality of information provided in this publication still apply today. Undoubtly, this book must be among other recent orthopedic publications as a reliable source of non-operative fracture care information.

The most important fracture book ever....

That this book is again in reprint confirms its timelessness. Whilst operative management of fractures is commonplace, the non operative management continues to be important - especially for emergency departments providing first aid of these injuries. The concepts taught by Charnley are still relevant today, and every emergency department should have one. Every orthopaedic trainee should have one. A must read.

Classic orthopedic text

This was the TEXT recommended by Dr. Banks Blackwell, at my Pine Bluff Arkansas Family practice Residency. A well written concise classic on Orthopedic management and diagnosis. Really taught that "mechanism of injury" was a critical element in diagnosis!
Elementary my dear Watson! Banks was a great instructor too.
