George Orwell (Motihari, India, 1903-Londres, 1950), cuyo nombre real era Eric Blair, fue novelista, ensayista brillante y maestro de periodistas. Podría decirse que su breve vida resume los sueños y las pesadillas del mundo occidental en el siglo XX. Nació en la India británica en el seno de una familia de clase media, estudió con una beca en el exclusivo colegio de Eton, sirvió en la Policía Imperial en ultramar (Los días de Birmania, 1934), volvió a Europa, donde vivió a salto de mata (Sin blanca en París y Londres, 1933), regresó a la Inglaterra rural y empezó allí el ejercicio de la docencia (La hija del clérigo, 1935), escribió sobre la clase obrera inglesa y la explotación (Que no muera la aspidistra, 1936; El camino a Wigan Pier, 1937), recogió su experiencia combatiendo el fascismo en la turbulenta Guerra Civil española (Homenaje a Cataluña, 1938), empezó a vislumbrar en la convalecencia posterior el derrumbe del viejo mundo (Subir a por aire, 1939), colaboró en la BBC durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, se consagró en el Tribune y el Observer como uno de los mejores prosistas en lengua inglesa (entre su vasta producción ensayística cabe destacar El león y el unicornio y otros ensayos, 1940), fabuló las perversiones del socialismo (Rebelión en la granja, 1945) y llegó a anticipar nuevos tipos de sociedad burocrática e hiperpolítica (1984, 1949). Perfecto

Es un libro muy bien escrito, me encantó la historia y me hizo pensar en que nuestra sociedad se ha vuelto un poco como la que describe Orwell con tecnología para monitorear a cualquier individuo sobre la tierra y con medios de comunicación manipulados para hacer olvidar el pasado a las personas. Sobre la guerra entre las potencias que se describen en el libro se me vino a la mente las guerras interminables de la actualidad.
Recomiendo mucho este libro y a los mexicanos en general, poner mucha atención al libro de Goldstein que se describe en los últimos capítulos de la segunda parte del libro, va muy acorde a nuestra realidad.

La distopia no tan utopica de Orwell

Hay libros que en esta vida todos deberiamos de leer, libros que, ha pesar de no ser ejemplo de literatura de primer nivel, nos abren las puertas a mundos paralelos con tantisimas semejanzas con nuestra realidad que dan demasiado de que pensar. Este libro es un ejemplo perfecto de lo anterior expuesto. Vivimos en el mundo del Gran Hermano ya, el internet y los celulares nos vigilan y saben todo acerca de nosotros. La manipulacion de los medios es tangible dia con dia. La historia en si es predecible. El final igual, empero el como llegan alli realmente es una mezcla de lo grotesco y lo sublime. Totalmente recomendado.

Excelente clásico con una traducción muy bien lograda

Seguramente las personas que compraron este libro ya saben que se trata de un clásico muy bien reconocido, así que sólo diré que la traducción está muy bien lograda; quizás algunas palabras como "mono" para "overall" le quitan fuerza a lo que el autor quiso decir, pero por lo demás está muy bien.
